Description
As reportedly the only Ferrari-powered racing boat in history, the “Arno XI Hydroplane” set the world speed record for watercraft at just over 150 mph in October 1953. Well-known driver Achille Castoldi is said to have secured a 4.5-liter Ferrari V12 engine to be installed in a custom hydroplane to try to set the water speed record. After being tuned by famous Ferrari chief racing engineer Stefano Meazza, who added twin superchargers to boost output to over 500 horsepower, Castoldi locked in the water speed record in the fall of 1953. Later, in 1958, the boat was acquired by powerboat racer Nando Dell'Orto, who campaigned the hydroplane until his retirement in 1968.
The selling dealer states that it will provide a bill of sale for the proper transfer of ownership for this item. For anyone interested in vintage boat racing or Ferrari history, this impressive 1958 Ferrari Arno XI Hydroplane Model would likely be the centerpiece of any collection.
