Description

This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II BT7 2+2 Convertible has an older restoration, which the seller refreshed over the last three years with considerable fuel and electrical system refurbishments at a reported $50,000 cost. He has owned the classic British sports car since 2008. The car was repainted in the car’s original Colorado Red color, which still shows a good gloss in the photos. The seller affirms the car “starts every time, drives fine, and maintains a good running temperature.” He reports the four-speed manual transmission operates as designed but that the optional Laycock de Normanville overdrive does not engage, despite having the refurbishment noted below. He indicates a slight dent in a frame crossmember. “The car is still a showstopper and has that deep-throated Healey exhaust tone,” he says. He reports keeping the car garage-stored and has never driven it in rain under his ownership.

The Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II was a model refresh to the British sports car that arrived in 1961. The 1962 model year was the last one for the BN7 two-seat roadster and BT7 2+2 roadster with side curtains and detachable soft top. After 1962, the Big Healey was offered only as the Sports Convertible, featuring a folding convertible top and roll-up windows. This was also the only year for the three-carburetor intake, as a dual-carb system replaced it late in the year.

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Kentucky title in his name. This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II BT7 2+2 Convertible remains an eye-grabber with its well-preserved older restoration. The recent fuel and electric system refurbishments and other services should make it ready to drive, though the overdrive unit will need more work to become functional.
