Description

This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL Convertible is presented by the seller as a driver-quality restoration. He is helping the owner to get the classic German roadster listed, with her permission. This car has the iconic “pagoda” detachable hardtop, but the status of the soft top is not known. A comprehensive mechanical refurbishment was completed from 2021 to 2024 by Coastal Customs & Restorations in Freeport, Florida, and Mitanix British Car Specialists in Tampa. The work included rebuilding the fuel injection and braking systems, along with some significant suspension servicing. “This mechanically sorted example is focused on reliability and driving enjoyment rather than show perfection,” he says. Judging by the provided photos, this white 230SL could be a strong attraction at local shows and Mercedes-Benz gatherings.

Introduced in 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 230SL was the first of the W113 roadsters, which remained in production until 1971. Designed by Paul Bracq, then head of the Mercedes design studio, the W113 is often called the “Pagoda” for the detachable hardtop’s concave roof surface. The top’s design was contributed by the Mercedes-Benz safety engineer, Béla Barényi, who specified thick rear pillars, as well. Those features were intended to add strength in a rollover crash.

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Alaska title in the owner’s name. The seller is assisting the owner of the vehicle, with her permission, to get the vehicle listed online. With $15,000 in recent comprehensive mechanical refurbishments performed, this 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL “Pagoda” Convertible is presented as sorted, reliable, and ready to drive and show.
